The coastal town of Larvik (23,600 inhabitants in 2007) is located in southeastern Norway, near Larvik Fjord (which flows into the Skagerrak), and belongs to the county of Vestfold.Larvik the Municipal Court in 1671, and the main industry was the time the timber trade, shipbuilding and shipping.Later in the 1930s, the city got a versatile industrial growth.
From the port of Larvik is bilfergeforbindelse to Hirtshals in Denmark, and E18 passes also north of downtown.
The city’s oldest buildings is at Tollerodden – and there are several historic tourist attractions. Among the most visited are Larvik church from 1677, Larvik Hospital from 1762 and the old customs house from 1712 – which today houses the city’s maritime museum. The area is also the beautiful manor house in the Baroque style from 1674.
Other tourist attractions in the town of Larvik Museum – a local history museum with exhibits about the city’s marine and industrial history, Beechwood – a recreation area with great hiking trails, Fritzøe Park with Fritzøehus – which is a mansion from the 1860s.
Larvik is also a great resort in summer, with rocks and beaches, campgrounds and marinas that have a teeming småbåtliv. Larvik has a nice business district with shops, cafes and restaurants.
The nearest airport is Sandefjord Airport – Torp, located 22 km east of Larvik.
