The northern Norwegian town of Mo i Rana is situated in the municipality in Nordland county, and has 17,900 inhabitants (2009). Mo i Rana is a trading center for the region, and has excellent communications with the modern road, rail and airport.

Mo i Rana is situated at the head of Ranfjord, south of Salt Rock, Svartisen National Park and Polarsirken. The site was previously referred to as the “Iron City”, but called today for “Polar Circle City”.
Mo i Rana was granted city status until 1997, and in the city’s pedestrian streets with shops and malls, town hall, cafes and restaurants.
In addition to magnificent scenery and recreational areas, Mo i Rana several sites – including the Mo church from 1724, Rana Museum (a museum of local history with natural history department) and Moholmen – Mo i Rana’s oldest district with historic buildings and a marina.
The 10 meter tall sculpture “merman” from 1995, is also one of the city’s sights. this is in Ranfjord – approx. 15 meters from the shore.
