Sandnessjøen is a city and administrative center in Alstahaug, located in Nordland county. The town has 5,700 inhabitants (2009) and belongs to the region and landscape Helgeland.
Sandnessjøen located on the island Alsten, located at the mouth of Vefsnfjorden. The city is a transport hub and commercial center for the outer Helgeland, and the port call at Coastal Voyage ( Bergen – Kirkenes ). From the port there are ferry connections to, among others Bodø.
