Sousse is located on the east coast in the northern part of Tunisia .It borders the city to Hammametbukta belonging to the Mediterranean Sea and is located approx. 110 km southeast of the capital Tunis. The city has an important fishing and export port where it carried goods such as olive oil. In Sousse live approx. 165000 (2008) inhabitants, and the city was founded by the Phoenicians already around the year 900 BC Kr and called the time Hadrumetum.
The old town called Medina is a well-preserved historical holdover from about 800 AD to 900 AD. In 1998 the old city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage list. Here you can find several historical sites including the Great Mosque of approx. 850 AD. Medina is surrounded by an old city wall, and within a kasbah, which was a kind of fortress where the city leader lived, the Mosaic Museum. Sousse is also known for its beautiful beaches and resorts along the coast.
