Montreux is a town with 23,800 inhabitants (2008) located in the French-speaking canton of Valais (German: Vaud) – specifically in the northeast end of Lake Geneva (Lac Leman), and at the foot of the Alps
The city is primarily known for its many popular cultural festivals and concerts. The famous “Montreux Festival” for TV productions (official name: Rose d’Or) was held here in the period 1958-2003, when it was moved to Lucerne.
Another major international event is the annual Montreux Jazz Festival. Montreux Casino must also be mentioned that in 1971, was rebuilt after it burned down during a concert by the world-famous rock performer Frank Zappa.
