Zug (25,800 inhabitants in 2008) on Lake Zugersee, and is the capital of the Swiss canton of Zug.The city lies at the foot of the mountain Zugerberg, which measures 1,039 meters above sea level
Zug is known to be an ideal tourist destination for recreation, kulturturelle activities and outdoor activities.
The city’s main attraction is the old town with historic buildings and old city walls from the 1500s. Other sights in Zug’s City Hall from 1505, St. Oswald’s Church from 1478, Africa Museum, art gallery (with paintings and sculptures) and The Prehistoric Museum – showing models of how people lived and survived during the Ice Age, Stone Age and Bronze Age.
Palace Museum in Zug is also a popular attraction, where parts of the building is from 1000-century. Indoor you will find the cultural-historical museum with interesting exhibits. The castle, which is a landmark in the city, has served as both a fortress and residence. It has also great views from the Palace Museum of the city and Zugersee.
Zug has several annual festivals – including jazz festival in August and lake festival “Seenachtsfest” in the June / July.
