Trelleborg is Sweden’s southernmost city.It has approx. 26,000 inhabitants and is located in Scania (which is the name of both a landscape and a lan).
Trelleborg is first mentioned in written sources in 1257, but has its origins in the past – during the Viking era – when there was a ring castle (called a “slave castle”) here. This has recently been reconstructed by an archaeological discovery, and is today one of the most popular attractions.
Other sights in Trelleborg is the old water tower from 1912 (where there is currently such a Café), Trelleborg City Park (built in 1896) and Art Museum Axel Ebbesen Konsthall.
Trelleborg is otherwise known as a busy port city, where there are a lot of freight for both cargo and passengers. There are ferry connections from here to both Sassnitz, Rostock and Travemünde in Germany – and Swinoujscie in Poland.
The nearest major airport is Malmö Airport (Sturup), located in Svedala, 28 km northwest of Trelleborg.
