Vordingborg is a small town with 9,282 inhabitants (2009) in Region Sjælland – specifically by Masnedsund on Sydsjælland. The city has a gangway to Masnedsø and across the Great Power Bridge to Falster.
The old ferry town Vordingborg had its heyday in the Middle Ages, when several of the Danish kings periodically lived here. The city’s most famous attraction is also the ruins of the old Vordingborg Slot from 1364 What is left of this building today, Gåsetårnet – which is also Vordingborg landmark. In the original castle site there is also a much visited historical botanical garden. Moreover, you will find Denmark’s Borg Center (formerly Sydsjællands Museum) here – in two half-timbered houses, one from the 1700s and the other from the 1800s.
Today Vordingborg is otherwise a pleasant small town with an intimate downtown atmosphere – and on both sides of the city is fine and popular beaches.
