Lahti (approx. 100,000 inhabitants) is a city that is centrally located in the southern part of Finland – specifically Lake Vesijärvi the landscape Päijät-Häme.Although Lahti not received city status until 1877, is regarded as Finland’s oldest settlement (ca. 9,000 year old).
The modern Lahti is primarily known as a winter sports destination – particularly for the annual ski event Lahtispelen. Among the sights is then also the three ski jumps, which is located in the “trip-tac-toe” formation in Lahti Idrott Centrum.
Otherwise, the Town Hall in Lahti (1911) one of the city’s scenic buildings – in addition to Ristinkirkko, a modern church designed by the famous architect Alvar Aalto in 1981.
