The port city of Bremerhaven is located in northwestern Germany, and belongs to the state of Lower Saxony.The city has about 51,000 inhabitants (2008), and is where the Elbe flows into the North Sea. Tourism and fisheries are the main source of income.

Cuxhaven is known to be a nice swim and resort town in summer with long sandy beaches and good opportunities for water sports. A few kilometers outside the town lies the island Neuwerk, and when it is low tide you can walk over to the island. A popular attraction at Neuwerk the lighthouse from 1369

Another tourist attraction in Cuxhaven is Schloss Ritzebüttel – a castle from the 1300s that is open to the public, and is surrounded by beautiful gardens.

Other sights in the city: Fish Museum, Fort Kugelbake – a historic naval fortress from the end of the 1800s, Ship Museum – including ship models, maritime paintings, Museum of local history exhibits and the old water tower from 1897.
