Jena is located in the central part of Germany, near the river Saale, and has approximately 102,700 inhabitants (2008).The city belongs to the state of Thuringia and is known for its university, founded in 1558.
Jena the Municipal Court in 1322, and sden middle of the 1800s, the city has been known worldwide for its optical industry (Carl Zeiss). It is also an important railway junction.
Jena has several historical sights, among others. a. City Hall from 1377 in the Gothic style, “Stadtkirche” (a bykirke built in the period 1438 to 1525) – as well as St. Michael’s Church from the 1200s.
Other tourist attractions include it is 128 meters high JenTower with Scala restaurant and observation deck – where visitors can enjoy fantastic panoramic views over the city and region, Planetarium, the astronomical observatory, botanical gardens, city museum Göhre (a local history museum that also has an art gallery), glass museum, gptisk museum – and a Literature Museum, located in the former home of the philosopher Johan Gottlieb Fichte.
