Memmingen is located in the state of Bavaria in southern Germany, and has about 42,000 inhabitants (2008).The city is located near the river Iller – approx. 115 km southwest of Munich.

Memmingen is a medieval town – famous for its old city gates, towers, gables and beautiful facades. The city also has some of the best preserved palaces and fortifications in southern Germany.

Some of the most visited tourist attractions in the Memmingen is “Frauenkirche” – Our Lady’s Church – from 1258, the town hall from 1589 (with the facade from the 1700s), St. Martin’s Church from 1524 (with its impressive church tower), and “Hermansbau “- a baroque palace from 1766 which today houses the town museum. Here visitors can learn more about the history – and John Heiss Gallery are also in the building.

The art lovers should also visit the “Mewo Kunsthalle” – with paintings from 1800 – and 1900’s, made by South German artists.

  “Antonierhaus” is also a frequently visited tourist attraction.The building is a former convent from the period 1200 – 1500’s, where Antonius Order lived.This was a hospital order in which the purpose was to care for the sick, and the order was named after “St. Anthony”. The building is a cultural history of the hospital and a museum with an exhibition of paintings and sculptures.
