Neuss is located in the western part of Germany , by the river Rhine, and belongs to the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.The city has 151,200 inhabitants (2008), and on the other side of the Rhine lies the city of Düsseldorf .
Neuss is one of the oldest cities in the country, and has been inhabited since the Romans founded it in the year 16 BCKr. as a military outpost, and called instead Novaesium.
The town has several historical, cultural and architectural tourist attractions – including the magnificent church of “Quirinus-Münster” with roots back to the 1200s. The church – which is a landmark for the city – were rebuilt after a fire in 1741. Other sights in Cologne: Haus Rottels Museum – local history museum housed in a building dating from the 1820s, St. Mary’s Church from 1902, Roscheider Court (an outdoor museum where you can also see a diorama of a Roman fort in miniature), and Clemens-Sels-Museum – a local history museum and art gallery.
In addition, the city has a beautiful botanical garden, several theaters – including the Globe Theatre – that each year the Shakespeare festival, good shopping and varied nightlife.
