Setubal is a city somligger 30 km southeast of Lisbon on the River Sado expiration of the Baia de Setubal. The city is close to Arrabida National and the Serra da Arrabida. 117,000 inhabitants live in the important port city.

Setubal is known for its fishing traditions and sardine. The city was the center of the country’s fishing industry in the early 20th century, but most factories are closed today. Tourism has taken over. Arrabida National Park has several beautiful beaches and scenery. In the Sado River, tourists can see a dolfinkoloni. Troia peninsula offers beaches and luksusressorts. Castelo de Sao Filipe, a fortress from 16-1700s, is located on the river, and is now a luxury hotel. The largest historic building in Setubal, Jesus Convent, from 15 to 1600 in the Gothic style. Church Sao Julião with Gothic portal, is also of interest. Almost all the old buildings in town were destroyed by earthquakes in 1531 and 1755.
