Novi Sad – with 210,000 inhabitants (370,000 in the metropolitan area) is Serbia’s second largest city.It is located north of the country – the river Danube – and is the capital of the autonomous region of Vojvodina. There Novi Sad is located, there have been settlement since the stone age – but the city got its present name and byprivilegier first in 1748.
One of the city’s major attractions are Petrovaradin fortress on the Danube left bank (where there is also a museum). Otherwise, Novi Sad, several monumental churches, and a beautiful Jewish synagogue. In addition, there are a number of interesting museums – including Vojvodina Museum (with over 400,000 objects) and several well-visited art museums and galleries.
Novi Sad is also known as the venue for the big music festival EXIT in July each year, where you can hear many international bands performing live – within various genres (rock, techno, hip-hop, reggae, etc.).
There is no airport in Novi Sad. The nearest is Nikola Tesla International Airport outside the capital Belgrade, ca. 70 km southwest of Novi Sad.
