Rota belongs to the province of Cadiz in the Andalusia region. The city is located in southwestern Spain and is located on the west side of Cádizbukta, on the opposite side of the provincial capital of Cadiz.Rota is situated right out on a tip that leads out into the Atlantic Ocean, and it is about 45 km from Cadiz, located on a peninsula.From Rota is nearly 30 km to the border between Spain and Portugal, and in 2005 the population of approx.27 000.
This is an attractive town which boasts beaches at 16 km where there are good opportunities for water sports like wind surfing. The city was founded by the Phoenicians some centuries BC Kr, and the historic town retains a medieval character with small, winding streets. There are several historic buildings in the city, including the Castillo de Luna from the 1700s that the town hall and church, Church of La O, which was built in the 1500s.
The nearest airport is Jerez Airport which is located about 40 km north of Rota.
