Karlskrona is located in Blekinge County in the Swedish Baltic coast. The center has about. 35,000 inhabitants, situated on islands in the archipelago. The largest island – Trossö – make up most of Karlskrona center.
Karlskrona was founded in 1680, and is best known for its old naval base from 1600 – and 1700’s, which is listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
The city has several popular attractions, including Dumb island – which is a maritime museum district, Fredrik Cathedral from the 1700s, Trefaldighetskyrkan from 1697, Blekinge Museum – County Museum which has exhibits about the coastal culture and the region’s history, car museum and Drottningskärs Kastell from the 1600s.Also the newly opened Museum Kulenovic Collection is worth a visit – an art museum located on the Square in “Vatten Castle” from 1863. The collection includes works by Van Gogh, Matisse and Rembrandt.
A little outside the center’s Barnens Farm – a combined outdoor water park, playground and mini zoo.
Karlskrona has other great shopping and great beaches. The city also has ferry connections to such Gdynia, Poland.
