Östersund is located in Sweden, and the administrative center of Jämtland.The city – which was founded in 1786 – has approx. 44,000 inhabitants.

Östersund is marketed as “Winter City” – and many of the attractions is also related to winter sports. It has been held championships in both speed skating, biathlon, cross country skiing and snow-cross.

The city is otherwise known as a cafe and cultural venue – and among cultural institutions NOK Jamtli (Jämtland County Museum) known. There is a local and cultural history, which has also placed great emphasis on the dramatized history of dissemination.   Also Jämtland flight and lotta Museum and Gaaltije (South Sami Cultural Centre) are popular tourist destinations in Ostersund.

The nearest airport is Åre Östersund Airport, located on Frösön – approx. 12 km west of downtown.
