Vaxjo is a city with approx. 60,000 inhabitants, situated in southern Sweden – the landscape of Småland.It is the administrative center of Kronobergs County. Växjö, which is surrounded by lakes on every side, include referred to as “Europe’s greenest city.”
There are several interesting museums in Vaxjo – including Småland Museum (Swedish Glass Museum), Regementsmuseet and Psykiatrihistoriska museum. Otherwise, Växjö Domkyrka a significant attraction. The oldest parts are from the Middle Ages, but during the 1800 – and 1900’s the church was greatly transformed. It is famous for its two slim, elegant tower.
For historical monuments, there are three castles in and around the city, all of which are popular destinations: Kronobergs ruined castle (the oldest part of the 1400s) – located on an island in Helgasjön, Bergkvara Castle (1470’s) – 6 km west of downtown and the much younger Tele Borg’s Castle (1800) just south of the city.
The regional airport Smaland Airport is approx. 5 km northwest of Vaxjo center.
