Sana’a, which has slightly over 1.7 million inhabitants, is the capital of Yemen (Yemen).It’s more than 2,500 years old and one of the world’s highest capitals (2,200 m).
Sana’a main tourist attraction is the “Old Town”, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are many preserved old buildings – some of them over 400 years old. Among the attractions are the old city walls, with a height ranging between 6 and 9 meters. One of the gates – Bab el Yemen – is 700 years old. Within the walls there are such over 100 mosques and 12 old bathroom (so-called hammams).
Perhaps the most popular tourist attraction in Sana’a is the Great Mosque al-Jami ‘al-Kabir from the 600s AD. A popular tourist destination of an entirely different nature is the traditional market, Suq al-Milh.
A little outside the city are Yemen’s main airport Sana’a International Airport (El Rahab airport).
