In the center are parks and squares, as well as main street “Aplotarias” 15 km from Chios town is the monastery Nea Moni from 1000-century, listed on UNESCO World Heritage List and is a major tourist attraction.Another attraction on the island is the village Pirgy – located in the south and is called the “colorful community” because the houses are decorated in black and white. The Mesta – located southwest of the island, has many unique buildings from the 1200s – is a popular destination. Also, Karfas Beach, which is the finest of Chios, mentioned. It is located just south of the capital.
