Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania and the country’s largest city with 542,000 inhabitants.Vilnius is located on both sides of the river Neris, in eastern Lithuania to the border with Belarus .
In 1994 came the Old Town of Vilnius, with the UNESCO. There are several churches and buildings from 1300 to the 1900s. Much of the old town was a Jewish ghetto during World War II.
The city has many beautiful buildings in various architectural styles. The Roman Catholic St. Stanislav’s Cathedral, which was begun in 1777 in neoclassical style, the St. Anna and St. Bernadin churches of late Gothic style. Kated ralen have catacombs.In the middle of town are the ruins of Gediminas castle from the 1300s. There are good views over the city. Visitors can also take a funicular to get a better view.Vilnius has a basilica from 1251 with a crypt. Port Tower Ostra Brama remains from the ancient fortifications.
Vilnius airport is located six miles south of the center of Oro Uostas.
