The Greek island of Paros is located in the Aegean Sea, is one of the largest islands in the Cyclades. Paros is a popular tourist destination, and has about 15,000 inhabitants (2009).Small, cozy villages with whitewashed houses and blue doors dominate the island and along the coast are beautiful beaches.
The main town is called Parikia (approx. 2000 inhabitants), situated in a bay on the northwest side of the island. From here there are ferry connections to many other Greek cities and islands, including Athens, Mykonos, Naxos, Samos, Crete, Ios and Santorini .
In Parikia find a small but interesting archaeological museum – with an exhibition of 6,000-year-old artifacts. Close by is the church Ekatontapylianí – “Church of 100 Doors” from 500-number. The church was rebuilt several times, most recently in 1960.
Otherwise, Parikia great shopping, a vibrant nightlife with bars and discos – and the beaches with excellent opportunities for water sports.
On the north side of the island lies the town of Naoussa, which also has many holidaymakers in summer. A visit to the mountain village of Lefkas is recommended – where the famous marble mines are located.
The airport of Paros Panteleio Airport is located 9 km south of Parikia, and has daily flights to / from Athens .
